lake update april 19th

CURRENT STATUS : state of flood emergency

Flood-threatened cottagers and campers at Fishing Lake near Wadena, Sask., have been told by the government to get out.

With water rising as the remaining snow from the winter melts, public safety officials are urging property owners to pack up their belongings.

For its part, the province is setting up an emergency operation centre at Leslie Beach.

Saskatchewan Environment has placed three seasonal water systems in the Fishing Lake area out of service because of concerns the water may not be safe to drink.

Right now, the water at Fishing Lake is rising about five centimetres a day and is expected to rise another 46 centimetres before it peaks in early May.

The peak is expected to be as much as 90 centimetres higher than it was in 1997 — the highest previously recorded level.

*****************

The province's flood watchers are worried about the resort area of Fishing Lake on Wednesday.

People were sandbagging their homes in the area just north of Foam Lake in the east-central part of the province.

Chorney Beach and Leslie Beach declared local states of emergency Wednesday.

There are about 500 cabins on the lake, but only a few dozen are lived-in year round.

Fishing Lake's problem is that it has no natural outlet – if water pours in, the level will rise until it spills out over a wide area.

That's only happened twice in the past century, according to Saskatchewan Watershed Authority spokesperson Jim Waggoner.

He said the ice on the lake also threatens cabins.

"If there is a significant wind at the time of ice break up that's when there is some potential," he said.

Waggoner said all cabin owners have been advised of the rising water, adding it's expected to continue for at least another week.

In 1997, 149 cottages were flooded by the lake. (OURS WAS ONE OF THEM THEN....(and its never been the same since.)

********************

WATERSHED AUTHORITY UPDATE

Flood Advisory--Fishing Lake, Waldesa Lake and Carrot River Area
April 19, 2007

Water Level Advisory – Fishing Lake, Waldsea Lake

With the rapid spring thaw, Saskatchewan Watershed Authority is updating the water level advisories for the following locations:

• Fishing Lake near Wadena
• Waldsea Lake near Humboldt

The recent warm temperatures throughout the day and night have caused a rapid melt of the heavy snow pack in the east central and northeast part of the grain belt. As a result the creeks and rivers are flowing at high rates. Fishing Lake and Waldsea Lake are both currently at record high levels and are expected to continue to rise approximately an additional 0.5m (2 feet). These projections are based on limited data and average spring and summer precipitation. Above average precipitation would affect these projections.

These lake levels are considerably higher than have been previously experienced making it difficult to project accurate peak levels.

*******************

sooo.... last time we jacked up the cabin, but this whole 90 cm/2 meters estimate seems pretty shakey.....estimates of rising btw 2-5 cms per day... lets hope for minimum wind, cool weather and fast peak.

havn't felt the draw to post lately, perhaps the winter blah's..
current status

-house is quiet again, its still suffering from the after affects of ignored piles of minor disasters left to the way-side this past month.. but that is remady-able with some motivation to clean and purge - this completely mood directed i tell you (im making up words too..btw how many people catch themselves saying "irregardless" or "unthaw"? )

-picked up a seatsale for oneway to ontario...now just need to wait (cross fingers) for a seat sale to come up from ottawa- home in june. west jet has a pretty sweet deal but its only untill end of may. i would rather not pay 350 for one way.

-had a really nice supper with monty and the fam' the other night, ate some amazing tomato broccoli quesch (clearly that is a misspell)

-came across a barely started journal that i wrote in between highschool and my first year university while i was cleaning some things out. I love coming across old writing of thoughts that you have no recollection of. i actually think "how exciting, i get to read into the life of how randi thought XX years ago." (yes, i have come across this before...i used to write in random books, paper and leave them all over the place in my pack-ratness forgetting their location). this time it was kind of a concerning, kind of "oh yeeeeaaaaaaa" and kind of " if i only knew" sort of find.

-keeping a low key weekend for the 2 days i get, i need some time to just lay low and spend at home me thinks. im in the minus worse then before with out funds (t4 where aAAre youuuu)
and ive gone out alot the past few weeks.home needs to be back to comfort zone

Japan's health minister: Women are "birth-giving machines"
Japan's 71-year-old health minister Hakuo Yanagisawa gave a speech in which he called Japanese women "birth-giving machines" and called on them to "do their best per head."

he said: The number of women aged between 15 and 50 is fixed. Because the number of birth-giving machines and devices is fixed, all we can ask for is for them to do their best per head, although it may not be so appropriate to call them machines.

hehe, ok ladies, that's it then. we are all birth giving machine's, the truth has been laid out and some ancient old man decided it was his duty to make that clear. It is now time to get those ovaries into shape for all those babies we need to pump out, comon - get to it, we have a quota to reach for the inventory of our world population surplus.

*ehm.

finially!

got the factory sterio working after the dead battery episode..
what a hassle though, and a silly silly silly (or perhaps smart if they wanted to use it as a money venture) move on honda's behalf.

basically the sterio's anti- theft feature locks it when it thinks its being stolen, including when car batteries die. in order to access that special 'code' honda wants you to bring in your car for an 87-100 dollar charge because they need to get your radio serial number to find the code- because its on the sterio and they take out the dash etc.... (im not going to get into how rediculous this is but continuing..)

well their faces should be red.

i looked online for awhile and found the 'serial number' is accessable by presssing 2 buttons as you turn on your sterio, and got the number on my screen. this must be what they charge 87-100 dollars for. my conversation with honda today ( after already getting my serial number)...

R- " hi my battery died and i need my access code to unlock my radio"

honda - " ok, yes. you will need to bring your car in so we can retrive the serial number, charges apply blahblah ..-"

R " actually, i already have my serial number."

honda - " ...you do?..."

R " yes i found the 2 button sequence to press online to bring it up. it took me .05 seconds"

Honda"_ oh uhh... ok...whats the number ill go look it up in our system"

-----
MY BEEF.
2 minutes later i was up and running. honda, your anti theft system sucks balls. as an owner of the car, with its factory sterio, why would you rig this when something as common as a battery faliure happens? you are not making it difficult for theives at all...they can call in and get the code noooooo problem. you are only making it potentially costly and frustrating for the owners of your vehicles.
